WHO Regulates the Industry

Products that are labeled “Organic” are grown and processed according to strict federal government standards set in place by USDA and must be certified by a third party agency. In order to ensure compliance, a government-approved certifier conducts regular inspections on organic handling and processing facilities as well as farms, traders and distributors. There are currently ninety-six USDA-accredited certifying agents, of which fifty-six are based in the U.S. Products that are labeled with the USDA Organic seal mean that at least 95% of its ingredients have been produced organically.

Presently, there isn’t a regulatory body governing “natural” products (with the exception of meat and poultry). Therefore, it is important to read product labels carefully and understand the exact meaning of each ingredient. If you come across a word that you don’t understand or can’t pronounce - chances it’s not healthy for you to eat. Do the research - buy products from quality, reputable companies that are willing to provide you with educational material as well as full disclosure of their products’ ingredients.
